Guanciale, pecorino romano and pepper. Every other Roman pasta starts here.

Rione Monti · Rome
A Roman osteria since 1974: five pastas, four mains, wine from the Castelli hills. Nobody will call you in from the street.
Since 1974
Grandmother Elvira opened here in 1974, when Via degli Annibaldi had more carpenters than tourists. The room has not changed: forty-two covers, a marble counter, chairs that creak.
We cook five pastas and four main courses. They have been the same for fifty years, and we start them from scratch every day: the guanciale is cut in the morning, the sauce cooks slowly, the pasta goes in when you order.

How we work
We are in one of the most touristic spots on earth. It seems only fair to say up front how we behave — so you know what to expect before you sit down.
We have no one at the door stopping passers-by. If you come in, it is because you chose to.
Cover charge €2 per person, water €2.50, coffee €1.50 at the table too. Nothing else is added to the bill.
Five pastas and four mains. When a dish runs out it is gone — we keep nothing in the freezer.
Finding us
Before you come
From this site: fill in the request and WhatsApp opens with the message ready to send. We reply the same day. At lunch there is almost always a free table without booking.
Yes, and you can filter the menu for it. Every dish lists its allergens. Tell us when you book: the kitchen is careful, but it is one kitchen, not a separate laboratory.
Pasta is €13–15, a main €15–22, house wine €4 a quarter litre. With a starter, pasta and a quarter of wine you stay under €30 a head.
Of course. We have high chairs and do half portions of pasta without making a fuss about it on the bill.
Yes, all of them, even for a coffee. The card machine always works — and if it does not, the coffee is on us.
