Monte San Pietro · Bologna hills

The pasta is still rolled by hand.

A family trattoria since 1961: tortellini folded one at a time, ragù that cooks for three hours, the long table at the back of the room.

Since 1961

Three generations, one rolling pin.

Iole opened the trattoria in 1961, in a farmhouse above Bologna. She rolled the pasta every morning at six, and her granddaughter Marta still does it — on the same wooden board, worn hollow in the middle.

We have never owned a pasta machine. It is not nostalgia: a sheet rolled with a wooden pin is porous and holds the sauce, and you can taste that in the first mouthful.

With children

Children are allowed to make noise here.

We are a family trattoria, and families have been our regulars for sixty years. Nobody will give you a look because a child gets up from the table.

  1. Half portions

Half of any first course at half the price. High chairs, bibs, and a plain plate of tagliatelle if that is what is needed.

  2. The long table

Eighteen seats at the back of the room for christenings, birthdays and crowded Sundays. No extra charge to book it.

  3. The yard

Behind the house there is a yard with a mulberry tree and two benches: in summer the children end up there while the grown-ups have coffee.

Before you come

The questions we are asked most.

How do I book?

From this site: fill in the request and WhatsApp opens with the message ready to send. We reply the same day. For Sunday, book by Friday if you can.

Can we book the long table?

Yes — eighteen seats, no extra charge. Mention it in the request: for christenings and birthdays we agree the menu over the phone.

Do you cook gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan?

Vegetarian yes, and you can filter the menu for it. Gluten-free we can do for the main courses and sides, but the pasta is soft wheat and we will not pretend otherwise. Every dish lists its allergens.

Are dogs welcome?

Yes, in the dining room and in the yard. The water bowl is on us.

What does lunch cost?

A first course is €12–14, a main €14–18, house wine €3 a glass. With a starter, a first course and a quarter of wine you are at about €28 a head.
